Monthly blahs

Well, I still feel like garbage, although I did get my thirty minutes in. I didn't eat well today, so that combined with a few other things may be why I feel so awful. Thankfully I shouldn't have this problem for either race.
I got under two miles in in 30 minutes- 1.75 miles, to be exact. And it took 17:46 to complete the mile. Still under cut time for the first race, but not very good. But I'm taking some comfort in the fact that I still managed to get up and run even though I felt awful.
Let's see... I got this awesome water bottle called a Bobble which I'm using, combined with a water app on my phone, to drink more water and less soda. So far I've been doing great! I've seriously cut back on my soda intake.
That's all for now. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow and get a full workout in!

Back on track!

Well, I got my walking in today! 45 minutes with a distance of 2.68 miles. If I can keep that average for the entire race I'll be able to finish in the alloted time without any problems. My fastest mile was 16:13. I wasn't feeling great, so no jogging. Just walking, with an average speed of 3.5 mph.
Hopefully I'll get more in tomorrow!! Less than three weeks until my first race! I need to be focused!

Not looking good....

Less than three weeks and I feel awful. I tried to get on the treadmill today and felt bad after a few minutes. Today is supposed to be a rest day anyway, but I was hoping to catch up a bit. Anyway, no work out today. I really need to get back into it if I'm going to be remotely ready for the first half marathon. I should be feeling better tomorrow, I hope, so I'll put extra effort in then.
Wish me luck!

Uh oh!

Under a month until my first race!!! I won't lie, I'm really nervous about it.
The good news is that I've been walking every day I'm scheduled to, which is great! The bad news came today with the weekly distance run. I was supposed to run 8 miles and I only got 5 in. It was mainly a time issue- I didn't have the time to finish the last three miles. Unfortunately, with my current job weekends are the worst, so I have little time to get my walking in.
But I'm going to keep at it! At 5 miles (which I completed in 81:22) I was walking at an average speed of 3.66 mph. There was some jogging in there as well- I went 4.9 mph then.
Two problems started to arise when I had to stop:
Firstly, my legs were beginning to feel very tired. After a half hour they don't feel so bad, so I just need to work through that tired feeling.
Secondly, I'm getting very bored. Very, very bored. I grabbed a bunch of old magazines and flipped through them, trying to avoid seeing how far I've gotten. Watching television while on the treadmill doesn't work for me like it does for my mom. I may try putting on a movie for my next workout. I'm also going to create a very long workout playlist for my ipod. I just need to move all of my music from my old computer to my new one....
Anyway, that's all for now! I'll update again shortly!

Just over a month left...

With a month and a few days left I'm really starting to panic. I'm not sure I can do 13.1 miles in one go. I keep forcing myself to think that I can, though, and keep on training.
Today was a 40 minute walk, with an average speed of 3.6 mph. With a fastest mile of 15:54 minutes, I ended up walking 2.43 miles. Since I need to maintain an 18:19 mile I should be okay- as long as I can maintain a 15 to 16 minute mile thoughout the race.
I didn't feel like I was getting into my stride until the end of the walking. I may have started off too fast/without really being fully warmed up and that's why it took me so long.
I'm also having a "fat" night- I night where I feel particularly bad about my body. It's not a good feeling, but as soon as I started to feel bad I got myself up and moving, which made me feel a bit better. I'm moving and getting active. So I'm losing weight very slowly. Considering that I haven't been eating as well as I should (something I need to work on soon!!!), the fact that my weight is going down at all is great.
Tomorrow is an off day, but I may walk since I didn't feel up to it on Tuesday.
Well, ta ta for now!

Less than 6 weeks!

EEK! Less than 6 weeks until the Richmond half marathon, and most times I feel nowhere near prepared. So how's training going?
Well, I had another day last week where I just felt awful. I still don't know why. So that threw a wrench in my training habits. I adjusted the training schedule and I'm working away, though!
Today I walked 50 minutes with an average speed of 3.6 for a total of 3.07 miles. At one point I was speed walking at 4.2 mph, which led to my fastest mile of 15:11- my fastest yet! I felt great afterwards, too.
My only problem now is adjusting for the length of the half marathon. I can do 50 minutes no problem. But can I do several hours? This is what concerns me the most. :/
Let's see... what else is there? My weight is very, very slowly going down. I can't notice any real changes, although my thighs feel stronger. They're still flabby, but it's easier to feel the muscle under all that flab.
Besides that not much has changed. I need to purchase some real running clothes because what I'm wearing now ain't gonna cut it.
ta ta for now!

Slowly getting better...

Today was a distance run- 4 miles. Not too bad- just under a third of a race. Anyway, my mom and I set a pace we want to strive for for our first race this November. We want to average about 3.5. That's a bit more of a fast walk rather than a run, but it keeps us from being swept up. This first half marathon has a minimum time of 4 hours. Averaging 3.5 mph will give us enough time to finish the race comfortably and will be a good head start for training for the Princess, which has a minimum time of 3.5 hours. With character stops along the way we will definately want to average 4mph or a little faster to keep from being swept up.
Anyway, how was todays run? It was distance based, rather than time based. I managed the four miles in 66:53 with an average speed of 3.5 mph and a fastest mile of 16:32. I just need to be able to last this long for 3.75 hours instead of just over one and I'll be great!
My goal right now is to finish the race. I can worry about personal records when I have more races under my belt. Write you again soon!
